What this is
Self-tapes are now the norm for shows, colleges, competitions and castings — and small details can make a huge difference. This one-hour introductory workshop is designed to give you the key rules, structure and confidence to start submitting stronger self-tapes immediately.
Your tutor
Sarah Mayhew — industry specialist in self-taping at college and professional level, and a current working TV actress. Sarah teaches self-tape technique to performers at the top level and knows exactly what helps a tape stand out (and what gets in the way).
What you’ll learn (in 60 minutes)
- The “non-negotiables” that make a self-tape look and sound professional
- Framing, lighting and sound — how to get it right with just a phone
- What casting teams and audition panels actually need to see
- Common mistakes (and how to avoid them fast)
- How to choose material and make it land clearly on camera
- Simple direction you can apply straight away to improve performance on screen
Who it’s for
- Any West End Training student who wants to improve self-tapes for auditions, colleges, competitions or opportunities
- Perfect if self-taping feels new, awkward, or you’re not sure what “good” looks like yet
How it works
- This is a live Zoom session (interactive, not pre-recorded)
- Once you book, you’ll receive the Zoom link by email
- Spaces are capped at 12 to keep it focused and allow time for questions
What’s next (optional)
If you enjoy this session, we’ll be offering an optional 5-session workshop course afterwards for students who want to really perfect this craft — creating their own self-tapes, receiving feedback and direction, and building consistency and confidence on camera.
